e-Methanol production in Denmark

This week, our partner European Energy produced the first raw methanol at its e-methanol plant in Kassø. So it won’t be long before the first drops of e-methanol are distilled.

What is ReiCat’s role in this lighthouse project?
The path to producing e-methanol begins with electrolysis, which uses green energy to split water into hydrogen and oxygen. After electrolysis, the green hydrogen is purified to quality 5.0 using a ReiCat hydrogen purification system. This gas quality is required for the production of raw methanol from hydrogen and CO2. Finally, the first drops of e-methanol are distilled.

e-Methanol is an important resource for the decarbonization of sectors that cannot be electrified. It can be used as a fuel for shipping or as a substitute for fossil elements in plastics production, to name just two examples of applications.

We at ReiCat are proud to contribute to this lighthouse project. Congratulations to European Energy. Kassø marks the beginning of a new path for the green energy transition.
